Overview
If you’re a family member or partner of someone who was infected, you may be eligible for compensation as an ‘affected person’. The amount you can get will depend on your relationship with the infected person and how you were impacted.
Affected people are:
- partners
- parents
- children
- siblings
- carers
If you are affected and also infected
If you have been infected and have a partner or family member who is also infected, you can make a separate claim for compensation.
If more than one person in your life has been infected, you can make separate claims. You’ll be eligible for ‘injury’ compensation awards for each person who was infected.
Compensation for affected people has not been finalised yet
The government is aiming for the regulations for affected people to be in place by 31 March 2025. This depends on both the House of Commons and House of Lords approving them.
