Parents

You’ll be eligible for compensation if your child was infected, and you lived with and cared for them for at least 1 year before they turned 18. This applies whether you are their parent through:

  • birth
  • adoption
  • being a step-parent
  • acting as a parent, such as a grandparent

If your child was infected under the age of 18

If your child was infected as an adult

This table shows the compensation amounts if your child was infected after they turned 18.

If you were financially dependent on your child that has died, you may be able to get compensation for financial loss through the supplementary route for affected people.
