Carers
You may be able to get compensation if you’ve provided regular, unpaid care to the infected person, for 16.5 hours a week or more over at least 6 months during the period of their infection.

Supporting documents
We need documents to show that:
- you care or cared for the infected person for at least 16.5 hours a week
- you cared for them for at least 6 months after they were infected
- the care was needed because of their infection
We may also ask for documents showing the amount of any past compensation or damages you’ve received relating to infected blood in the UK or abroad, if this applies to you.
Examples of supporting documents
There is a range of documents and other supporting information you can send to your claim manager to show when you provided care.
For example, benefit records if you received Carer’s Allowance, GP records that mention the infected person’s care needs or identify you as a carer, social care records about the care needs and provision of care, or tax and employment records if you changed your work patterns due to the care demands.
