  • MPs visit Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA) to see the compensation process first-hand
  • MPs met staff at the heart of the claims process
  • IBCA publishes latest figures showing more than 1,700 people in the compensation service.

Yesterday (Thursday 19 June 2025) Clive Efford MP, Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood, visited IBCA's office in Newcastle as IBCA released its latest compensation figures. Sir Julian Lewis MP, Co-Chair of the APPG, and Sir Robert Francis KC, IBCA Interim Chair, also attended online.

The MPs met the staff who work directly with those making their compensation claims to learn more about the process. They also met with IBCA's Interim CEO David Foley who explained how IBCA had taken a 'test-and-learn' approach to grow the service since it opened to compensation claims late last year.

Speaking after the visit, Interim Chief Executive for IBCA, David Foley said:

“Those impacted by the infected blood scandal have waited decades for recognition and compensation, and that's why our priority is to pay many people as soon as possible.

“We have now opened our service to 1,700 and this number continues to grow. We are opening our service to, on average, 100 people every week and, at that rate, IBCA expects that every living and infected person registered with a support scheme will be able to start their claim this year.

“We are committed to transparency, so it is vital that we continue to share our latest compensation figures as well as inviting feedback from the community and those who represent them.”

As of 19 June 2025:

  • 1,707 people have been asked to start their claim
  • 1,346 people have started the claim process
  • 462 people have received an offer, totalling £395,322,139.79
  • 310 people have been paid, totalling £231,893,100.08

The infected blood community is central to IBCA's work and the Authority continues to listen to and learn from the community and those that represent them. The latest visit from the APPG forms part of IBCA's ongoing commitment to regularly update all those impacted - and their representatives - while also involving them in the design of the claim service.
