We know from feedback that those intending to claim compensation would find it useful to understand more about how we calculate a claim, and to get an estimate of their possible compensation amount.

Today (Monday 2 June), we have updated our online calculator to help affected people understand how much compensation they may be eligible for. This is for people who are a partner, child, parent, sibling or unpaid carer of an infected person. You can also use the calculator if you are infected or claiming for an estate.

You can find the updated calculator on our website. You can also find a step-by-step video guide to help you use the calculator on our YouTube channel.

The calculator will help you understand what compensation you may be eligible for, but is not the start of your compensation claim. The calculator will only be able to work out one compensation estimate at a time and you may need to calculate claims separately if you expect to make more than one claim. If you are affected in multiple ways, or you are both infected and affected, we are currently enhancing the calculator to better support you. This feature will be ready within the next few weeks and we will update you when it is available.

The calculations are based on the information you provide, so the actual amount of your full claim could change if more or different information is used when your claim begins. When your claim starts with an IBCA claim manager you’ll work through and agree what information is used in your calculation. Keeping a copy of your estimate will help you to prepare for this. When you make your claim, you’ll need to provide supporting documents. The type of documents you’ll need is listed on our website.
