Baroness Anderson visits IBCA office

In September Baroness Anderson of Stoke on Trent visited our Newcastle office.

Baroness Anderson visited as we confirmed that over £1 billion has been paid in compensation to date.

The Baroness met with our claim managers to understand the support they provide for people making their claim.

She learnt more about their work and the extensive training programme each claim manager takes part in before they begin their role.

Speaking after the visit, Interim Chief Executive for IBCA, David Foley said:

“Those impacted by the infected blood scandal have waited decades for recognition and compensation, and that's why our priority is to pay many people as soon as possible, in a safe and secure way.

“The infected blood community is central to our work and we have taken a community-driven approach to developing the scheme since it opened to compensation claims late last year.

“We welcomed this opportunity to show Baroness Anderson first-hand how IBCA is operating, and how we are engaging and consulting the community in developing the scheme as we prepare to open the service to more and different groups of people.”

Since the visit we have opened the ‘register your intent’ service, a new registration service for those making infected blood compensation claims.

Baroness Anderson said:

"The staff at IBCA are working tirelessly to ensure that those people infected and affected by one of the worst scandals in our history receive the compensation they are owed."

We are committed to paying compensation to each and every person who is entitled, as quickly as we can.

We've now asked every living infected person who is registered and has an active claim with a support scheme to come forward and start their claim.

The new ‘register your intent’ service opened on 10 October. Each and every eligible person can now register their intent to make a compensation claim. This includes those making claims on behalf of infected people who have sadly died without receiving compensation.

Following the launch of the ‘register your intent’ service, we will begin to open to each group of people making a compensation claim over the coming months.
