Overview
IBCA is now processing compensation claims for:
- people who were infected by HIV, Hepatitis B and C through NHS treatment with contaminated blood, blood products or tissue (including armed forces treatment overseas)
- partners, parents, children, siblings and unpaid carers of infected people (also called ‘affected people’)
- people acting on behalf of the estate of an infected person who has died
We are not yet processing claims for people acting on behalf of the estate of an affected person who has died.

How long the compensation scheme will run
You'll be able to make a claim until 31 March 2031 if you were diagnosed before 1 April 2025. Anyone diagnosed after 1 April 2025 will be able to make their claim for 6 years after their diagnosis. If your health gets worse or you develop a new severe health condition, you may be able to return to the scheme.

How we're designing the service
We're trying to make the service as simple and fair as possible. That's why we're opening our service more widely in stages, starting with specific groups, and continually learning and improving to ensure a smooth process for everyone.
We’ve already had a lot of input from the infected and affected community to help us understand what the service needs to do. We’ll keep asking for your feedback as we continue developing the service.
