Today (23 April 2026) we have released our latest registration and compensation figures.
All the figures on this page are correct as of 21 April 2026.
Registration progress
IBCA opened the register your intent service on 9 October 2025.
Since then, we have received 18,309 registrations of intent to make a compensation claim with us.
This figure represents individual registrations, not unique people or claims. This is because some people may have registered more than once.
Of this number there have been:
- 1,220 registrations of intent from a living infected person, or their representative (this does not include those claiming as living with infection and registered with a support scheme, as they should already have been contacted beforehand)
- 14,183 registrations of intent from a living affected person, or their representative
- 346 registrations of intent relating to a living infected and affected person, or their representative
- 2,560 registrations of intent from people acting on behalf of a deceased infected person
Compensation progress
People asked to begin compensation claims
Where fewer than 10 people have been contacted or started the claim process in a reporting period, we don't report the increase to protect people's privacy and make sure no one can be identified.
A total of 4,004 people have been asked to start their claim. This includes:
- 3,626 living infected people registered with an existing support scheme;
- 192 living infected people who have never been compensated;
- 96 people acting on behalf of a deceased infected person;
- 90 affected people.
Of this number, 3,789 have started the claim process. This includes:
- 3,485 living infected people registered with an existing support scheme;
- 145 living infected people who have never been compensated;
- 82 people acting on behalf of a deceased infected person;
- 77 affected people.
Compensation offers
So far, 3,304 people have received an offer.
The total value of offers made is £2,658,850,242.22.
People paid
A total of 3,201 people have had their compensation paid.
Those who have chosen to continue receiving payments from their existing support schemes for life, with an additional compensation amount from IBCA, are described as the ‘adjusted’ route.
Those who have chosen to receive all of their compensation in a one-off compensation payment directly from IBCA, and no longer receive regular support scheme payments for life, are described as the ‘core’ route.
| People paid by adjusted route | 1,825 |
|---|---|
| People paid by core route | 1,376 |
| Total people paid | 3,201 |
Compensation paid
A total of £2,083,370,437.96 has been paid to people.
| Adjusted route | £711,630,866.30 |
|---|---|
| Core route | £1,371,739,571.66 |
| Total | £2,083,370,437.96 |
The ‘adjusted’ route compensation figure above only includes the amount that IBCA has paid to people when they’ve chosen the adjusted route. It does not include payments for life that people continue to receive from the support schemes.
