More than 170 people attend IBCA’s in-person event in London

Published 1 May 2026

  • More than 170 people attended IBCA’s first community drop-in session in London on Wednesday 29 April 2026
  • The event was a chance to informally meet IBCA staff face-to-face to ask questions about infected blood compensation
  • Key charity stakeholders shared insightful feedback with IBCAs senior staff on compensation progress so far.

More than 170 people were able to ask questions, get insight on how the claim process works and share their experience with claim managers and senior staff from the Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA) during the first community drop-in event in London.

IBCA is an independent body which pays compensation to people infected and affected by HIV, hepatitis B and C through contaminated blood or blood products.

The event was the latest in a number of drop-in sessions IBCA is holding across the UK this year. They have been arranged after members of the infected blood community asked for the chance to speak informally with IBCA and to discuss specific areas of interest to them.

IBCA staff were on hand to answer questions on a range of issues including how claims work in practice, how the claim service is expanding to bring in more people and what documents may be needed to make a claim. Senior members of staff were also in attendance to hear the concerns of community members first-hand and give information on IBCA’s work.

A community member from London who attended said: “[This was] a welcoming and inclusive environment. A well organised event with professional staff.”

The event also allowed for members of IBCA’s Executive Committee and IBCA claim managers to meet with stakeholders such as The Haemophilia Society and The Hepatitis C Trust.

Representatives from the Infected Blood Psychological Service also attended the session, building a greater understanding of IBCA’s role and exploring ways of working more closely together.

David Foley, IBCA Chief Executive, said:

“Thank you to all of the community members who took the time to come and meet with us at our community in-person event in London.

“These events are a valuable opportunity for IBCA staff to meet community members in-person, listen to their concerns and be able to directly answer their questions. We are building relationships with our community members, and benefitting hugely from hearing their views first-hand.

“The most important thing for us is that community members leave our events feeling heard, supported and more reassured about what comes next, whether they are in the middle of the process, waiting to start their claim or not yet registered with us; we want them to know that they have someone to talk to.”
