Richard Blakeway
Biography
Richard Blakeway is an ombudsman and public servant. He is chair of the Office for Legal Complaints and was appointed as Housing Ombudsman in September 2019.
He led significant reforms to the service following the Grenfell Tower tragedy. These included expanding the Ombudsman's powers, introducing a statutory Complaint Handling Code and initiating systemic investigations into housing hazards.
Previously, Richard served as Deputy Mayor for Housing in London, overseeing the delivery of affordable homes, large-scale land regeneration and initiatives to tackle rough sleeping. He also chaired the Homes for London Board and served on the board of the British Library.
Richard is a former chair of the Ombudsman Association and is a member of the Administrative Justice Council.
