As you may be aware, the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Infected Blood Compensation Authority), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Data directorate and Operations directorate of the Infected Blood Compensation Authority. We can confirm that the information you have requested is held by the Infected Blood Compensation Authority.

Please provide the following information:
- Of the Estates claims notified, how many of the applicants are over 75 years of age?
2. Of the Estates claims notified, what percentage of the total are those over 75
3. Of the estates claims notified, how many of the applicants are under 75 years of age?
4. Of the Estates Claims Notified, Of those over 75, how many have to date been invited to start with their claim ?
5. What is the current monthly erosion rate of the Estate Cases over 75 outstanding and those started ?
6. Of the Estates Claims Notified, Of those under 75 , how many have to date been invited to start with their claim ?
7. Of the Estates Claims Notified, Of those over 75 , how many have had their claims settled?
8. Of the Estates Claims Notified, Of those over 75 how many have also indicated affected claims ( both as a percentage of all Estates claims and numerically ) ?

You provided further clarification to your request on 8 June 2026:
With respect , it is perfectly clear we meant individuals who have registered " Estate claims" with IBCA . Otherwise why would we later ask the question at section 4 as to how many of those had been invited to claim ( ie started the process) .
So ..for the avoidance of doubt by "Estates Claims Notified" we did indeed mean those registered.

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and have provided a response for your attention below.
We would also like to make you aware of the following caveat to our reply -
As we currently collect only the dates of birth of the eldest beneficiary and the deceased individual as part of a deceased infected (estates) registration, the date of birth used here for the purpose of determining age groups is the date of birth of the eldest beneficiary provided at the time of registration. Please note this field is optional so we may not hold this date of birth for every registration. This will be specified where applicable further down in the response.

- 735 applicants of the Estates Claims Notified are over the age of 75 - Of the Estates Claims Notified what percentage of the total are those over 75
- This is 26.6% of the total number of Estates Claims Notified applications - Of the Estates Claims Notified , How many of the applicants are under 75 years of age ?
- There are 1870 confirmed applicants under the age of 75 and 158 applications which do not include the date of birth of the beneficiary and so the age group for these 158 registrations cannot be determined. - Of the Estates Claims Notified, Of those over 75, how many have to date been invited to start with their claim ?
- Of the 735 applications over the age of 75, 151 claims have been invited to start their claim with 4 applications that have been invited but have not been able to proceed. - What is the current monthly erosion rate of the Estate Cases over 75 outstanding and those started ?
- For how we can answer this there are 575 registrations for Estates over 75 which are yet to be invited, 151 claims started and 4 which cannot proceed. - Of the Estates Claims Notified, Of those under 75 , how many have to date been invited to start with their claim ?
- For Estates Claims under 75 there have been 50 claims started and 2 which have been attempted to start but cannot proceed. - Of the Estates Claims Notified, Of those over 75 , how many have had their claims settled?
- 17 claims of this type have had their claims settled. - Of the Estates Claims Notified, Of those over 75 how many have also indicated affected claims ( both as a percentage of all Estates claims and numerically ) ?
- The data that IBCA holds regarding registered Estates claims in which the beneficiary is over 75, and registered Affected claims does not allow us to accurately link claims together at the point of registration. As registration data is manually prepared for starting a claim any links to ongoing claims or registrations will be identified. - Of the Estates Claims Notified, Of those over 75 who have also indicated affected claims how many have been invited to start their affected claims as well as the Estate claim ?
- The data that IBCA holds regarding registered Estates claims in which the beneficiary is over 75, and registered Affected claims does not allow us to accurately link claims together at the point of registration. As registration data is manually prepared for starting a claim any links to ongoing claims or registrations will be identified. - Of the Affected Claims Is there a priority given to those over 75? If so please describe this in detail
- We are still in the test and learn phase for our Affected Model Office. But we can confirm that one of the key prioritisation criteria being used as we scale up is people aged 75 or over. - Of the Affected Claims how many over 75 have been invited to start their claim
- Out of the total number of Affected claims which have started, 54 of these are indicated as being over 75 and there are 4 claims of this type which have been attempted to start but cannot proceed further. - Will those over 75 who are both Affected claimants and Estate Claimants have their claims dealt with co-terminally?
- If an Affected claim has been asked to start but the connected infected claim has not yet progressed, this claim needs to be brought into the service. The Affected claim cannot progress until the linked infected claim has progressed.
