Requested: 23 November 2025
Responded: 22 December 2025
Published: 17 February 2026
This is IBCA's response to Freedom of Information (FOI) request.
Thank you for your email received on 23 November 2025 in which you made a request for access to information which may be held by the Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA).
You asked the following:
The number of compensation claims processed, offered, accepted and paid under the infected blood compensation scheme, broken down by infection severity band (as defined in the scheme's published tariffs. Within that breakdown, please include the acute hepatitis c severity band, showing the number of claims received, the number of offers made, the number of accepted, the number of payments made, the total amount paid. Please provide this data covering the period from the start of the scheme in 2024 up to the 23 November 2025. (Or the most recent date for which data is available).
Our response:
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and have provided a response for your attention.
Please find the information you requested below.

For claims that have not reached the payment stage, the data that IBCA has access to is data collected from the Infected Blood Support Schemes. Unfortunately, this data is incomplete and the severity banding is not standardised / not identical to the one used for claims that have gone through IBCA and received a payment.
However, this is what we can provide. Please note that this will not include every claim, and a few steps were taken to attempt to group similar infection severity levels together (although we cannot definitively confirm whether these are truly similar or whether they represent similar actual infection severities in practice).
