  • Around 90 people attended IBCA’s in-person session in Glasgow on Tuesday 20 January 2026

  • The event was a chance to informally meet IBCA staff face-to-face to ask questions about the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme

  • People who intend to make a claim for compensation can now register with IBCA

More than 90 people were able to ask questions and share feedback with staff from the Infected Blood Compensation Authority (IBCA) at an in-person event held in Glasgow city centre on Tuesday 20 January 2026.

The session was held after members of the infected blood community asked for the chance to speak informally with IBCA about specific areas of interest to them. This included how the compensation claim service is progressing, and what it’s like to make a claim.

One person who attended the session said: “I really did not know what to expect and just felt so unsure about everything.

“From the moment we walked upstairs, IBCA staff greeted us, and everyone we spoke to was so gentle and understanding, and any questions we asked, they would direct us to the person with that knowledge.

“IBCA, you have definitely got it right with your staff and with the compassion they showed us, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

The day saw members of IBCA’s board, executive committee and IBCA claim managers meeting with individuals intending to claim, as well as stakeholder groups that support the infected blood community in Scotland.

They also met with representatives for the Scottish Government, local MSPs and Glasgow clinicians to build a greater understanding of IBCA’s role and explore ways of working more closely together.

The British Red Cross attended to offer independent support if attendees felt overwhelmed or just needed a quiet moment.

David Foley, IBCA Chief Executive, said:

“Thank you to everyone who took the time to come and meet with us in Glasgow. We welcomed the opportunity to meet people face to face, listen to their feedback and concerns and answer their questions.

“We’ve already received positive feedback from those attending, thanking us for providing answers to their queries, and for the knowledge and compassion shown by our staff.

“IBCA is committed to working alongside those in the infected blood community to create a compensation claim service that meets their needs.

“We organised the event following feedback from the infected blood community, who said they wanted more face-to-face opportunities to speak with us. That's why events like this one are so important, and we’ve many more planned this year.”

Further community drop-in events will be held across the UK during 2026, including sessions in:

  • Birmingham
  • Manchester
  • London
  • Liverpool
  • Belfast
  • Cardiff

Since being established, IBCA has contacted 3,721 people to start their compensation claim, and offered more than £2.4 billion in compensation.

IBCA opened the register your intent service on 9 October 2025, and since then, 15,805 registrations of intent to make a compensation claim have been received.

Registration allows IBCA to understand who intends to claim, and how they would prefer to be contacted, so we can get in touch as soon as we are able to start their claim.

Those intending to make a claim can register their intent on the IBCA website.
